The Showroom stage programme from 13 to 15 September will review architecture, urban planning and design. Register now.

The Showroom stage programme will review architecture, urban planning and design as interaction between people, buildings and environment. Among other things, the multidisciplinary and critically oriented programme provides answers to questions concerning the future of cities and the relation of nature and architecture.

Showroom is an event professionals’ event for design, spatial design, and lighting, organized in collaboration between Helsinki Design Week and Habitare in the Helsinki fair centre from 13 to 15 September 2017. Showroom is one of the main events of Helsinki Design Week and a part of Habitare’s professional programme.

This year’s theme is Q&A, with which the talks on stage aim to reflect the underlying needs and expectations and to answer related questions that may arise.

International speakers include Kim Weckstrøm Jensen, Keller Easterling and Flemming Rafn Thomsen.

International speakers include American architect and author Keller Easterling; founder and partner at Danish architects’ office Tredje Natur Flemming Rafn Thomsen; and CEO of Danish lighting company Le Klint, Kim Weckstrøm Jensen. Germany-based architect and urbanist Kristien Ringhas cancelled.

The speakers are introduced by Finnish guests invited to present each keynote in relation to the theme. Introductions to the themes from local perspectives will be heard from Marco Steinberg, founder of Snowcone & Haystack specialized in strategic design, and Timo Hämäläinen, a consultant in urban design and author of From Rurban to Urban blog, and Kirsi Saarikangas; Professor of Art History at the University of Helsinki.

Architect dialogues will feature architects Helena Sandman, Marco Casagrande, Juho Grönholm, Ville Hara, Inari Virkkala and Hilla Rudanko. Lunch discussions will address interior architecture, service design and landscaping, featuring interior architects Joanna Laajisto, Vertti Kivi, Petra Majantie as well as service design pioneers Paula Bello, Erno Forsström and Mikko Koivisto.

The Finnish Institute in London produces a Mobile Home -project in collaboration with University of Westminster’s architecture students and Finnish and British architects Sami Rintala and Harry Charrington. The architects will come to Showroom to tell about the processes and end results of the project in which the students developed environmentally-friendly and low-emitting building materials and models under the guidance of the architects.
