Design Market (10–12 September 2021) is the signature kick-off event for the Helsinki Design Week festival. The idea is to empty the warehouses to make space for new products. Design Market is a curated event, and its vendor stalls are very much in demand. We select companies that have applicable items to sell: last-season products, prototypes and items of substandard quality, for example.
Due to exceptional conditions, this Helsinki Design Week classic will be organized in a new location in the autumn: it is to occupy the third and fourth floors of Glasshouse Helsinki, the main venue of the festival. In addition, like last year, the event will be included in the vendors’ web stores.
Helsinki Design Week encourages all of its contributors to pursue sustainable development, and Design Market is primarily targeted at design companies with high quality products made while adhering to the principles of sustainable development. We encourage our vendors to engage in transparent design and manufacturing and expect them to provide detailed information about the origins of their products and materials. As vendors, we select companies that have applicable items to sell: last-season products, prototypes and items of substandard quality, for example.
Project Manager Ilona Jämsen: How is safety ensured during the Design Market, an event known to attract a mass of people?
“We take the exceptional situation and the new smaller location into account in our floor layout and vendor selection. For the first time, we’ll be charging an entrance fee and the event will last for three days to offer one more sales day for the vendors and help divide the visitors on several days. With the same ticket, the visitors will be able to see the main exhibition of the festival, U-joints, and other supplementary programme. Design Market will also happen in the vendors’ web stores, so people can shop at home if they want.”
The call for Design Market vendors is open until 18 June 2021. For more information and the application form, click here.
