The exhibition “With the Naked Eye” brings up ordinary and often unnoticed things in a new way. It is an ambiguous and thought-inspiring whole with art works from 19 Finnish artists and a group of four artists. The exhibition is organized by the two Finnish associations Textile Artists TEXO and Artists O

The encounter between human and nature is at the core of the theme of the exhibition. The appreciation of natural materials, the development of new materials and the reuse and recycling of materials has got a new meaning – the circular economy is replacing the disposable culture.

The concept of new materialism is strongly involved in the exhibition. According to which human and material are inseparable. The material takes knowledge forward shaping the social, cultural and historical continuum. Development and use of new materials as well as the insights made possible by the recycling of materials challenge to see otherwise.

The curators of the exhibition are visual artist Kaisu Koivisto and designer Teemu Salonen. The curator’s knowledge of material based art and a vision for forming an interesting whole is reflected in the exhibition.

Kaisu Koivisto (b. 1962) is a well-known Finnish contemporary artist whose works deal with the boundaries of nature and culture. Kaisu has also worked as a curator in many exhibitions for example in The Mänttä Art Festival.

Teemu Salonen (b. 1976) is best known of objects where he combines art and design and different materials in skillfull and unprejudicedly ways. He is founder and curator of The Ars Auttoinen Festival.
