Weaving Kiosk featuring Emelie Röndahl
For Helsinki Design Week 2019 the Design Museum has invited weavers Emelie Röndahl (SE) and Rosa Tolnov Clausen (DK) to create an intervention in the museum. Taking the festival’s theme, Learning Climate, as their starting point, the two will bring their individual practices together in a workshop that explores the question “What can I know that you know about weaving?” in cooperation with museum visitors. The intervention brings a set of traditional hand looms to the museum space and invites museum visitors to participate in weaving.
Röndahl and Tolnov Clausen are both PhD students in the terrain of hand weaving at Gothenburg University (SE), but have not earlier worked together in this way. Röndahl explores in her thesis textile history, labour and time with the Nordic technique of ryijy (rya) as her focal point, while Tolnov Clausen researches immaterial values of hand weaving as a catalyst for physical, social and creative interaction.
