We, the lighting design master’s students at Uniarts Helsinki, would like to invite you, Helsinki inhabitants, to Jätkäsaari to together bring light to our shared urban space!

Guerrilla Lighting is a series of events originating in Great Britain which use lighting installations to show our cities and their architecture in a new light and to seize urban spaces. The aim of the Guerrilla Lighting event is to bring our attention to urban lighting – to what is lit and why and whether urban dwellers can play a role in the lighting of their surroundings.

Guerrilla Lighting Jätkäsaari is organized as part of the Theatre Academy’s Architecture Lighting course and Helsinki Design Week’s programme. As the objects of lighting for the event, we chosen places that have inspired us in Jätkäsaari and Ruoholahti.

We will gather at the Clarion Hotel on Thursday, 14 September 2017 at 7.30 pm, and from there, the group will continue together, following the route via Laivapojanaukio 2 to Ruoholahdenpuisto Park and the canal. Please check the weather before the event and prepare accordingly. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you are interested in carrying one of the lights in the event, please contact reija.pasanen@ramboll.fi.
Project team: Riikka Karjalainen, Teo Lanerva, Mateus Manninen and Alexander Salvesen. Supervising teacher: Reija Pasanen

The second part of the event, the panel discussion, will take place on Friday, 15 September at 10.30-11 am in Messukeskus Expo and Convention Centre as part of the Showroom event.
