The residence of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Kulosaari has a long and rich history. It was designed in the early days of the “Garden City Movement” in Kulosaari in 1907 by the renowned architect Oscar Bomanson. He first built the villa for himself, but the villa passed through many owners in the following decades. In 1952 and 1975, it was completely reconstructed and gained a white look in a functionalist style, as it has remained until today.

Director of the Slovak Design Center Mária Rišková will participate in the Design Diplomacy discussion with Petteri Kolinen, the CEO of Design Forum Finland.

Mária Rišková is a curator and culture manager. Since January 2016 she has worked as head of the Slovak Design Center in Bratislava. She holds a Master’s Degree in History of Art and Culture from Trnava University. Mária has coordinated and participated in a number of contemporary art programmes, independent spaces and experimental projects across Slovakia and Central Europe. In 2013 she co-founded the Slovak Design Museum in Bratislava (part of the Slovak Design Center), which she led until December 2015.

Petteri Kolinen is an industrial designer. He has worked in Nokia’s design department in various positions, been in charge of the Martela Ltd meeting room furniture collection and worked as a Martela Group design manager. Kolinen has also worked as a creative director at the Finnish Nanso Group and has been responsible for developing the Group’s various brands and collections. Since 2015, Petteri Kolinen has served as Managing Director of Design Forum Finland.
