Villa Kleineh is one of the oldest wooden houses in Helsinki. It has served as a summer villa for Russian and Baltic spa visitors before becoming the official residence of the Netherlands ambassador.

The Design Diplomacy dicussion will be held between Rotterdam-based designer duo Koen Meerkerk and Hugo de Boon and Helsinki-based designers specializing in ceramic tableware and wooden furniture Salla Luhtasela and Wesley Walters.

Koen Meerkerk and Hugo de Boon are a Rotterdam-based designer duo, who graduated from the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam. With a passion for creating value for things which have been labelled useless, the duo has placed themselves in today’s circular economy, facing and solving problems from a designer’s point of view. With bachelor’s degrees in spatial design, the two young designers have placed their focus on the development of materials. They recently moved into their new workplace in Bluecity where they work together with other circular businesses towards a zero waste economy.

Salla Luhtasela and Wesley Walters share an interest in functional, understated forms that highlight each material’s tactile qualities, as well as in the production process itself. They met while studying at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture and have collaborated on a broad range of professional projects under the studio name Kaksikko
