Villa Kleineh is one of the oldest wooden houses in Helsinki. It has served as a summer villa for Russian and Baltic spa visitors before becoming the official residence of the Netherlands ambassador.

Coen van de Steeg will be joining the Design Diplomacy discussion from the Netherlands to meet his counterpart, co-founder & design lead of Wolt Mika Matikainen.

Mika Matikainen is an awarded design generalist, who has worked in the field of design through three companies he’s founded, from digital product and service development to consulting. The latest adventure is the startup Wolt in which he’s one of the co-founders. Matikainen is also mentoring the biggest design hackathon ever held in Europe, Dash, and working on his Executive MBA for creatives industries at Berlin School of Creative Leadership. He loves big ideas and people who are capable of executing them in real life.

Coen van de Steeg is the founder of the nationwide WeHelpen movement in The Netherlands. WeHelpen started from the realization that our welfare state is being redesigned in a fundamentally different way and stimulates and increases informal help in society at a local level. The vision of WeHelpen is that every person can mean something to another person. Sooner or later, we all need help. Therefore, wehelpen.nl offers everyone in The Netherlands a platform where one can ask for help or where one can offer and share help. Through wehelpen.nl, people are brought together, people become inspired and motivated and people are supported to ask for help. More than 135 organizations nationwide are affiliated with the WeHelpen cooperative. Together they make wehelpen.nl available to society and share ownership, knowledge and costs.

The event is part of the Helsinki Design Week Design Diplomacy discussion series, which open the doors to Helsinki-based ambassadors’ residences. See the participating embassies and their schedules here.
