The Process of Jewelry-Making

Following the theme of sustainability, two goldsmiths design and make pieces of jewelry during the week. The process is open to public on workdays from 11 to 15 September from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Au3 Boutique and on Instagram. We’ll discuss jewelry-making and its role in the development of sustainable design. Finished products are on display at the boutique on Saturday, 16 September, and they’ll be sold to the highest bidder. Designing Walking and Cycling Experiences

Ramboll and Helsinki Cyclists will hold an event to collect experiences about walking and cycling in the centre of Helsinki. During the tours, participants will observe their walking and cycling experiences and document their thoughts and observations along the way. After the tours, participants will have an opportunity to compare and explore the experiences gained during the tours in a workshop organized by Ramboll’s service designers. The aim is to brainstorm how the centre of Helsinki could be developed into a better environment for pedestrians and cyclists. An illustrative summary of the collected experiences and development potential will be published during fall 2017.

Hanaholmen Art Opening

The fantastically renewed Hanaholmen opens its doors to art! Hanaholmen is a unique combination of diverse hotel services, fantastic touches of archipelago and marine climate, and design and art by famous Nordic artists.

You are welcome to celebrate the first visible results of our art programme with us and to become acquainted with visions of the art of public spaces. Two new artworks will be inaugurated at the event: a mural painted by Mirza Cizmic, a student from the art school Kuvataideakatemia, and the new art corridor called Korridoren, by Susanne Gottberg and Markus Kåhre, situated indoors. Our chef Lukas Hemnell loves Nordic flavours and will make a three-course lunch of this season’s ingredients for the event.

Story of your Tablecloth

“A beautiful linen tablecloth is meant to be used, not to be kept in your cabinet,” said Dora Jung, who designed dozens of linen damasks in her time. What has your tablecloth experienced with you? What kind of memories does it carry? How have you used it differently? Come and tell your story, and you may get a 20% discount at the Lapuan Kankurit Helsinki Store & Studio.

HDW HOP: Play Your Helsinki

Play your Helsinki invites people to share their experiences of Helsinki and take part in discussing what’s most important for them in our city but also to speak out regarding its planning and infrastructure. The installation is meant to be thought-provoking, waken memories and raise opinions, but also to inspire the sharing of stories of Helsinki.

The piece consists of hundreds of metal pipes that resemble church bells when moved. The data on the movement of the pipes is collected, processed and visualized online on the Play your Helsinki website, where one can see how the visitors have interacted with the installation. The collected data will include elements of chance and the effects of nature, which raises the question about the accuracy of statistics in general. How well can human factors in the end be measured and predicted? The installation is part of the HDW HOP City Installations.
