The first major event of World Design Weeks network is held on 14–15 September 2017 in Clarion Congress Centre in Helsinki.

World Design Weeks Summit Helsinki 2017 consists of two individual events that bring together design festivals and their partners around the world.

On Thursday 14 September, a relaxed concept DesignCommons will break the traditional conference lecture format that has speakers on stage and the audience silently listening. The international stars will sit with the audience and take turns to stand up and talk about the hottest design topics. During the evening, tables consisting of visitors and speakers alike will discuss common themes and find solutions while enjoying food and wine.

First speakers announced include Dutch architect Winy Maas, Finnish technology entrepreneur Marko Ahtisaari, Dutch landscape architect Cees van der Veeken and Studio Swine, a collaboration between Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and British artist Alexander Groves.

DesignCommons is an open event for everyone. Buy tickets here.

Creative Collaborations

On Friday 15 September, the focus will be on networking and creative problem-solving. The event will be hosted by the Swedish creative agency Fantastic Studios. The day is for members of the World Design Weeks network, international guests and local stakeholders. At the end of the day, World Design Weeks will select three pilot projects to start in 2018.

The event is by invitation only.
