In this workshop, you can repaint an old Arabia plate with help from Laura Pehkonen, an accomplished Finnish visual artist who works mainly with unique ceramics.

“As an artist, I’ve always been interested in multiple layers, dimensions and stories. Variations in pattern and colour, as well as imperfections like cracks and scratches, inspire me. When was this plate made? What did it look like back then? Who owned it, held it, washed it – what was their home like? What were they thinking? This little plate has seen so much in its long history.”

The re-decorated plates will be fired in the Centre’s own ceramic kiln in Arabia. The finished plate can be collected from the Design Lab on the 9th floor of the Centre.
