The Austrian Residence, located on the island of Lehtisaari, is a purpose-built diplomatic residence. The building was designed by architect Ilkka Salo. Construction of the residence was finished in 1972, and it has served as the official residence of the Austrian Ambassador to Finland ever since. The residence is surrounded by the best of Finnish nature with a fantastic view of Seurasaari Bay. It, therefore, combines in a perfect way Finnish architecture from the 1970s with the timeless beauty of Nordic nature.
The Design Diplomacy dialogue will be held between designers Klemens Schillinger and Simo Serpola.
Klemens Schillinger is a product and furniture designer based in Vienna, Austria. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art, he has been working as a freelance designer for various design studios, for example for Hem, RIM-Blackberry and Kvadrat, as well as carrying on with his own work. His goal is to develop simple yet well thought-out products, design methods and “Do it yourself“ recipes. This can result in almost self-evident product solutions with a sparse amount of charm, a minimal use of materials and a poetic accent.
Simo Serpola works as a freelancer under the name Simose. He looks for new and unprecedented yet classically functional ideas that are transformed into visually strong outcomes. Simo Serpola has been recognized and awarded for his designs both nationally and internationally.
Seats are limited and registration is binding.
