Organized by Ornamo and the Design Museum, the “Design Kiddie Academy” lets children work together with design professionals on different problem-solving exercises. The design tools used include curiosity, empathy, brainstorming, sketching, prototyping and testing.

On Saturday, September 16, the workshop is led by designer Laura Euro.
On Sunday, September 17, the workshop is led by designer Silvia Di Iorio.

Design Kiddie Academy
Design Kiddie Academy afternoon club sessions for third to sixth grade pupils started in 2010 in Helsinki primary schools. In the clubs, children are introduced to the design process through their own activities. The clubs are organized on specific areas of design, ranging from service design to industrial design. The clubs are free of charge to the participants, and they are supervised by professional designers. The aim of Design Kiddie Academy is also to provide tools for teachers: to educate and support adults interested in design education in their work. The programme offers teacher training and free learning materials for schools. The Design Kiddie Academy is realized jointly by the Design Museum and the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo, and it is a pilot project of the City of Helsinki Cultural Office.

The workshop is part of the HDW Children’s Weekend. See the whole Children’s Weekend programme here.

NB! For safety reasons and to avoid blocking the walking lanes, buggies and prams cannot be brought inside the Kattilahalli building.
