Helsinki Heart & Soul PhotoCafé

During 27.9.-5.10. photographer Katja Hagelstam is exhibiting selected Helsinki works at Miltton Showroom, Uudenmaankatu 4-6, where visitors, in addition to the exhibition, can enjoy Café Ekbergs Helsinki pastries and coffee in an atmosphere inspired by Alvar Aalto.

During the week, the audience can attend tailored city walks, guided by antique dealer Wenzel Hagelstam, film maker Roosa Toivonen, tv and film producer Seppo Toivonen and graphic designer Piëtke Visser, all of whom have participated in the making of the book Helsinki Heart & Soul (WSOY). The walks start at Uudenmaankatu. The exhibition is open daily from 11am to 7pm. Register yourself to the walks at katja.hagelstam(at)mac.com. More information at www.katjahagelstam.fi

PROGRAM

On Saturday September 27th at 4pm producer Seppo Toivonen leads his guests to an exploration of the history of Helsinki in English, with an in-depth visit to Hotel Torni.

On Wednesday October 1st at 6pm Roosa Toivonen will introduce parts of Helsinki that have been seen in the movies or described in songs. This tour starts with a look at some older and newer classics, excerpts of films and songs about Helsinki.

On Sunday October 5th at 4 pm Wenzel Hagelstam tells about his favorite area of Helsinki in Finnish and Swedish and takes his listeners to the Freemason’s Museum.

The price for the walking tours is 15e, including coffee and Helsinki cake in the PhotoCafé. It’s free for those who purchase the book!

 

Designpreview: Adora Lounge Collection, Galleria Pirkko-Liisa Topelius

Installation of the new home furnishing collection by Adora. Installation made in co-operation with Otto Urpala and Laura Tuorila.

Galleria Pirkko-Liisa Topelius, Ullanlinnankatu 1 A 2-4, focuses on contemporary art and promotes young and mostly unknown artist. Open Tue-Fri 11am–5pm and Sat-Sun 12am–4pm.

Frozen Memories, Gallery Katariina

As the Helsinki Design Week partner in Gallery Katariina is Italian-Finnish Caterina Montagni (b. 1983) who studies fashion design in Firenze. The white couture costumes from her collection Frozen Memories have been inspired by ethnic Sami costumes.

Gallery Katariina, at Kalevankatu 16, arranges 15–17 contemporary art exhibitions a year. Most of the exhibitions are private but there are also some theme and group exhibitions including paintings, sculptures, graphics, drawings, videos, installations, photos, performances etc. After exhibitions the works continue as a part of the Gallery Katariina Collection on the Internet, at www.helsingintaiteilijaseura.fi

Current exhibition: Soft Pencil and Pastel Drawings by Markku Laamanen (1.10.–19.10.) The dreamy and surrealistic pictures of Markku Laamanen (b. 1971) attract to survey our own fantasies and the art history of surrealism. His drawings are spontaneous and original visions, which are related to Max Ernst sculptures and reneissance portraits. Meet the artist on Sunday 19th of October at 13–16 p.m.
