8am–6pm, Corner of Erottajankatu and Bulevardi

A design office known for its urban fabrics, Fokus Fabrik moves its base for one day to the corner of Erottajankatu and Bulevardi.  The venue of the day depicts the core of the Fokus Fabrik's design philosophy - the merging of the city landscape and nature in the urban space. The hectic cross of Erottajankatu and Bulevardi and the neighbouring Esplanadi park form a visually interesting milieu, in which the built city and people with their daily routes create a unique and constantly changing atmosphere to the city.  During the work day the designers of Fokus Fabrik visualise the existing city space by using their own prints.  Asphalt might be patterned with fresh leaves or trams coloured to tone with rails. The urban spaces have been photographed in this moment and the proposals for a more colourful city space are displayed as pictures in the Landscape Office as well as on the Fokus Fabrik website.   more...

HundPark is a collective and shop of 8 Finnish non-mainstream fashion brands.  Gallery Norsu is dedicated to Nordic contemporary craft. The gallery, at Kaisaniemenkatu 9, showcases the finest in innovative Nordic Craft, both functional and sculptural, including jewellery, ceramics, metalwork, textiles, wood, furniture and glassware. Galleria Norsu is run by the Society for New Craft.  Current exhibition: TARJA TAKALO: MINIKON- Textile Jewellery Exhibition 18.9. – 18.10.2008 Tarja Takalo is a Finnish designer currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her jewellery collections are based on hand-woven textile fabric. The design is simple but technically demanding as the jewellery consists of fine woven silk, gold, silver threads and silver plate. As a textile designer Takalo wants to use textile material innovative way in jewellery.   more...

Designpreview: Adora Lounge Collection, Galleria Pirkko-Liisa Topelius

Installation of the new home furnishing collection by Adora. Installation made in co-operation with Otto Urpala and Laura Tuorila. Galleria Pirkko-Liisa Topelius, Ullanlinnankatu 1 A 2-4, focuses on contemporary art and promotes young and mostly unknown artist. Open Tue-Fri 11am–5pm and Sat-Sun 12am–4pm. Current exhibition: Nina Backman - Geneticdrift Five generations of female artists in one family. Photographic prints on aluminium.  

Frozen Memories, Gallery Katariina

As the Helsinki Design Week partner in Gallery Katariina is Italian-Finnish Caterina Montagni (b. 1983) who studies fashion design in Firenze. The white couture costumes from her collection Frozen Memories have been inspired by ethnic Sami costumes. Gallery Katariina, at Kalevankatu 16, arranges 15–17 contemporary art exhibitions a year. Most of the exhibitions are private but there are also some theme and group exhibitions including paintings, sculptures, graphics, drawings, videos, installations, photos, performances etc. After exhibitions the works continue as a part of the Gallery Katariina Collection on the Internet, at www.helsingintaiteilijaseura.fi Current exhibition: Soft Pencil and Pastel Drawings by Markku Laamanen (1.10.–19.10.) The dreamy and surrealistic pictures of Markku Laamanen (b. 1971) attract to survey our own fantasies and the art history of surrealism.
