Who we are
Kari Korkman, M.Sc. (Econ.), is the founder and director of Helsinki Design Week. He has been involved in a large number of product development projects and launches since the beginning of the 90s and has produced and curated a number of design exhibitions and events. Kari has received much recognition for his achievements in the design business and for activating city culture. Kari spends his spare time racing with his old wooden sailboat named Raili.
Helsinki Design Week’s Marketing Director Petra Majander has studied cultural production and marketing communication management. Majander has built a career on various marketing and communication positions within culture, publishing and media. Petra is developing the marketing communication of the festival and Helsinki Design Weekly, and its online publication as well as working for Helsinki Design Week’s internationalization and mediatization. Petra loves Mrs Armi Ratia, balloons and early morning swimming. In her leisure time Petra is there where the sun shines, being happy and carefree.
Martina works as the Executive Producer for Helsinki Design Week. She is a MSc. (Econ.) specialized in marketing and cultural management. Martina has been at the service of Helsinki Design Week since 2010 and she is in charge of productions and administration. In her spare time she likes to dance and spend time with friends and her garage band.
As a producer Reetta works with productions and plays a part in making Helsinki Design Week’s programme even more diverse and international. Reetta has studied cultural management and has worked in various projects specialized in Finnish fashion and design. She has gained international work experience from Stockholm, Berlin and London. Reetta loves to explore vintage stores, enjoys her Coca-Cola from a glass bottle and dreams of a secret life as a surfer girl.
Anni Korkman has been a part of the Helsinki Design Week from the beginning. For a quite a few years, she has been in charge of producing the Design Market stock sales at the Cable Factory. She is based both in Helsinki as well as in London, where she is currently studying at Central Saint Martins in an Innovation Management MA course. In her spare time Anni likes to watch documentaries about the world's oceans and play the piano.
Karoliina is a cultural producer and bachelor of Media Studies. She is in charge of producing Helsinki Design Week’s B2B concepts. Previously Karoliina has worked in various projects in the fields of fashion and design. She has also been producing a documentary film club and worked at Helsinki Design Week’s sister festival, Turku Design Festival.
Roosa Murto is widely in charge of communication projects at Helsinki Design Week and runs the design publication Helsinki Design Weekly. Previously she has worked as a journalist at Helsingin Sanomat, as a freelance writer and in various communication roles. She has studied journalism and international relations, and traveled slowly around the world.
Helena Fernström coordinates the international collaborations, the Open Call for Helsinki Design Week and other events. Previously, Helena has worked as a sales coordinator and has been involved in event productions, for example, at the Finnish Cultural Institute in Paris. She holds an MA in French philology and arts. Helena enjoys friends, quality movies and not-so-quality jokes.
Jutta Ylä-Mononen is in charge of the Muoto Gala, that awards the best of Finnish design. She has studied interior design, design management and marketing. On her previous position as an Editor in Chief at the Koti ja Keittiö magazine, she already run the same gala. Jutta loves travelling, ceramics, cooking, cosy nights at home and her favourite city Rome.
Jenny Järvinen assists in different productions of Helsinki Design Week, for example with Data-Driven Design Day and Open Studios-event. As a designer and an educationalist, Jenny is interested both in design and human behaviour. During her free time, she dreams of being as flexible as an yogi and enjoys being outside with her dogs.
Minja Rantavaara assists in communication projects at Helsinki Design Week and also at the design publication Helsinki Design Weekly. Minja is studying her master's degree in journalism and communication in Tampere University. She loves to try new food-recipes, read books and dream about the adventures in future.
